IndiePhotographer is about fine art photography. This is a place for photographers who want to show their work and interact with others who share the passion. It's a place for a kind of photography that transcends pixel counting and slick, glossy studio work but gives a rush of visual satisfaction. It's about ideas and personal vision, not technology, not commercial rewards.

Sharing great work is what we're here for. A clean home page with a slideshow, bigger thumbnails and less advertising. The idea is the art should take precedence over advertising and gibberish. We'll have member options for what shows up and how it looks; allowing you to customize the site to suit you. There will be galleries for recent uploads, popular images, favourite images / artists and style tags.

No monthly or yearly subscription fees. Even new members can upload images and to encourage interaction and feedback we have "stars", comments and discussions. New members are given 20 uploads and 100 stars they can give to other images.

More uploads can be purchased as follows:

• 50 uploads - $5
• 120 uploads - $10
• 200 uploads - $15
• 360 uploads - $25

With each upload you also get 10 stars that can be given to others. Buying uploads helps to keep the site running with less advertising. Users with little free cash can still participate by providing great content - for every 30 stars received you get a free upload. To create a balanced opportunity for all members there are limits of 1 upload per day and giving of 10 stars per day.

This site is open to anyone worldwide who shares an interest in great photography. Upload any content within a wide gamut of styles but note there are images not suitable here:

• Vacation, family and pet shots - there are so many places for that (see here).
• Slick commercial, pro, stock images - great for mags and adverts - not here.
• Documentary, journalism, tecchnical shots of bugs and flowers etc. - unless extrordinary in an artful way.
• Photos you didn't take or you don't fully own the copyright.
• Illegal, pornographic or really offensive images.

Acceptable images are 500 - 800 pixels on the long side, max 250K file size. JPEG only.

Members can select images or photographers as favourites that are added to a personal favourites list. Selecting an image as favourite also gives 3 stars to that image. Only your most recent 50 favourites get included in the site favourites list, keeping the site favourites list fresh.

Members can also have a subdomain / custom domain mapped onto an alternate home page for a small monthly fee. This page can also be configured to behave more like a personal gallery with custom logo and content.

An option for anonymous posting will allow members to upload content without their username being shown so that popularity is for merit rather than reputation. They can also test new work without affecting their reputation. Anonymous can be limited to 7 days or until changed.

Members only keep their stars if the image is online for at least 7 days. But if they delete images they don't get upload credits back again, so it's not a great idea to keep uploading images and then removing them.

Images with very few stars after 30 days are marked for removal. Members can view the pending removal list and choose to give stars to keep them alive. After another 30 days such images would be deleted permanently to help keep the showcase effective and reduce resource usage.

A bulk upload function will allow uploading multiple images at once. These images will be back dated or future dated (your choice) in the recent uploads gallery. This is to prevent flooding the gallery but still allows quickly building a personal collection.

We're working on a FREE upload pool that would allow sponsors to give some of their upload credits to others who have great images but no money to spend on uploads. Creating opportunities by giving and sharing is part of what makes this site different.
